A headache may appear as a sharp pain, a throbbing sensation or a dull ache.
Restriction of the spinal joints in the neck, irritation of the nerves that supply the head and face, as well as muscular tension can all lead to headaches.
This may happen for a variety of reasons:
- Stress
- Repetitive movements
- Breathing
- Poor posture
- Poor ergonomics
- Exercise
- Trauma or injury
These factors can cause pressure and irritation of the surrounding nerves. When nerves become irritated, the surrounding muscles tighten as as a protective mechanism. This tightness can lead directly to an acute headache or migraine (trigger point referral).Â
